Practical guide

What this favicon generator tool is for

Create a set of common favicon image sizes from one square source image and package the outputs for website setup.

Best for: Site owners who already have a clean square logo or icon and need browser/tab icon assets.

How it works in practice

A favicon is displayed at very small sizes, so intricate artwork often becomes unreadable. Generating multiple dimensions does not replace the design step of simplifying the source mark.

Example: A bold 512×512 monogram can scale down well. A detailed photograph with small text usually becomes muddy at 16×16.

Before you use it

  • The tool generates image assets; your CMS or HTML still needs to reference them correctly.
  • Tiny sizes may need a simplified icon rather than a literal miniaturized logo.
  • Browser caches can make favicon updates appear delayed.

Tips for a better result

  1. Start with a square source at 512×512 or larger.
  2. Avoid thin lines and tiny lettering.
  3. After uploading new favicons, test in a private window or clear favicon/browser cache if the old icon remains.
Privacy note: Core file/text transformations are designed to run in your browser. The page can still load normal website resources and third-party libraries/models. See our Privacy Policy and tool testing notes for details.

Implementation description

How this specific tool processes your input

Creates common favicon-sized raster outputs from one source image and packages multiple sizes for download. Small icons lose detail quickly, so source simplicity matters.

Verification checklist

  • Inspect 16×16 and 32×32 outputs at actual size.
  • Test the icon on both light and dark browser themes.

Use another method when…

Redesign the source mark if fine text or thin detail becomes unreadable at favicon size.

This section describes the implementation shipped with My Tools HQ. Verify important outputs before relying on them.

Questions about Favicon Generator

/ useful answers
Why does my favicon look blurry?

The source may contain detail that cannot survive at 16 or 32 pixels, or the browser may be scaling an unsuitable size.

Does this install the favicon on my website?

No. It generates the files; you still need to upload/configure them in your site or CMS.

Why do I need multiple sizes?

Different browsers, shortcuts and devices can request different icon dimensions.
