Practical guide

What this split pdf tool is for

Extract a selected page range from a PDF and save those pages as a separate document.

Best for: Pulling out a chapter, invoice, signed page, certificate or a smaller attachment from a larger PDF.

How it works in practice

Splitting copies selected pages into a new file; it does not edit the source PDF. Page numbering in the interface refers to physical PDF page positions, which can differ from printed page numbers shown inside a report.

Example: A report shows “Page 1” after a three-page cover section. If you need the printed pages 10–15, verify the actual PDF page positions first.

Before you use it

  • A simple range extractor may not support many disjoint ranges in one operation.
  • Interactive bookmarks and links that point outside the extracted range can lose usefulness.
  • Encrypted PDFs may require the correct password before processing.

Tips for a better result

  1. Use your PDF viewer thumbnail pane to identify the actual page positions.
  2. After extraction, open the new file and confirm its first and last pages.
  3. Keep the source PDF until the extracted file has been checked.
Privacy note: Core file/text transformations are designed to run in your browser. The page can still load normal website resources and third-party libraries/models. See our Privacy Policy and tool testing notes for details.

Implementation description

How this specific tool processes your input

Parses the page numbers/ranges you enter, copies those pages into a new PDF with pdf-lib and preserves them in ascending page order.

Verification checklist

  • Check that the selected range matches the intended pages.
  • Verify the downloaded PDF page count and order.

Use another method when…

Use a desktop PDF editor if you need bookmarks, attachments or complex document structure preserved separately.

This section describes the implementation shipped with My Tools HQ. Verify important outputs before relying on them.

Questions about Split PDF

/ useful answers
Does splitting delete pages from my original PDF?

No. It creates a new PDF from the selected pages and leaves your original file unchanged.

Why are the page numbers different from the numbers printed in the document?

PDF viewers count file pages from the beginning, while a document may use cover pages, Roman numerals or its own printed numbering.

Can I extract just one page?

Yes. Use the same start and end page when the interface supports a page range.
